Bio
Sylvia Diaz Westphal | Fiber Artist Originally from Chile and now based in Salt Lake City, Sylvia Diaz Westphal creates one-of-a-kind knitted and crocheted pieces shaped by heritage, imagination, and an extraordinary instinct for fiber. Sylvia never uses a pattern. Every hat, scarf, glove, mitten, baby piece, stuffie, and accessory begins entirely in her mind and takes shape as she works. Color combinations, textures, forms, and details are created intuitively, making each piece truly original and impossible to reproduce exactly. Her Chilean roots are woven naturally into her work, influencing her love of color, warmth, texture, and playful character. Some pieces are practical and beautifully wearable; others are whimsical and full of personality. All carry the unmistakable mark of something made slowly, thoughtfully, and entirely by hand. For Sylvia, fiber art is less about following instructions and more about letting imagination lead. The result is work that feels deeply personal, wonderfully unexpected, and genuinely one of a kind. Her artistry reflects what Juniper + Fire celebrates most: heritage carried forward, creativity without a template, and handmade pieces that could only have come from the mind—and hands—of their maker.
